Maki Street runs right through the heart of Westgate Shopping centre and has just undergone an extensive upgrade.

Located to Auckland’s ever expanding Northwest, the upgrade has brought both the road and pedestrian spaces upto the latest national streetscape standards. The upgrade will be safer for pedestrians, calm traffic flow and with the inclusion of seating and extensive planting, be a much more inviting area to spend some time in.

Working alongside Boffa Miskell and the LA team, Walkspaces involvement in the project included the supply and installation of a 32m foliage archway which will eventually be filled out with Tecomanthe Speciosa (Three Kings Vine).  The vine not only provides an attractive dense greenbelt but will offer some shade from the afternoon sun.

Walkspaces catalogue E_01 Seating and E_02 Benches have been employed throughout the public areas as well as some bespoke bench seating units recessed into the concrete walls scattered throughout the public spaces to offer small social areas to meet and relax.

The inclusion of Walkspaces BR_01 Bike Racks further encourage alternative forms of transport to the space and the inclusion of Walkspace 1050 diameter cast aluminium tree grates set the mature Nikau palms in good stead for future growth and protection. The inner tree grate rings can easily be removed as the Nikau grows preventing any damage to the palm trunk - clever design aye!
