Kopupaka Reserve, located to Auckland’s rapidly growing North West is a benchmark in the new Auckland Council design led approach of integrating engineering, ecology, community and cultural values to create significant new public open space. An integral component of the masterplan was to restore the former Tōtara Creek catchment and to manage storm-water effects from the new surrounding developments. The name Kopupaka is an ancestral name in this area relating to the meeting point of the Tōtara and Waiteputa Streams, located slightly downstream from Kopupaka Reserve.

Walkspace were heavily involved in the project from early conceptual stages assisting council in design and costing exercises for the shade structure and site wide furniture. From this Walkspace progressed into full detail design, engineering, fabrication and installation of the shade structure as well as the supply of site-wide furniture.

Walkspace’s customised catalogue F Series Seating, Benches and Picnic Tables as well as our hugely popular H Series Seats and Benches were supplied throughout the park. The bright and bold colourways as well as the lasercut motifs all reference the Apples orchards and Strawberry fields once picked on mass linking the sites past with its future purpose.

The inclusion of Walkspace’s BR_04 bike racks promote alternative forms of transport to and from the site and the inclusion of the Walkspace DF_02 Accessible Drinks Fountain extends people stay time.
