The collapse of the CTV building on the corner of Cashel and Madras Streets resulted in the loss of 115 lives and the injury of many more people in the February 2011 earthquake.

The newly landscaped former site of the CTV building is now open to the public to act as a peaceful place of remembrance, contemplation and reflection within the busy CBD and to honour those life’s lost.

Close consultation with families has seen a wide variety of plants and trees planted whilst some of the existing buildings foundations and carparks remain exposed and untouched.

Walkspace were humbled to supply seating, planter boxes as well as a bespoke drinks fountain to the project. From the opening, please view the below video from Otakaro:
